Depth range of electromagnetic sontic sounding systems in real media

© Shuman V.N.

Factors influencing the resolution and the depth range of the electromagnetic sounding systems are considered. As known, the waves in a medium with dispersion are not in general case described by hyperbolic equations and it is rather difficult to find the relation between the mathematical structure of these equations and the characteristic properties of the electromagnetic echo. It is concluded that the energy emitted by an exciter into the studied geological structure of an electromagnetic impulse may be optimally concentrated in a low or high frequency range of the spectrum that correspond with the frequency range of the low - or high frequency “window”.
