Underground electromagnetic sounding using georadars

© A.A. Borysenko, 2000

The paper describes a new and promising method of scientific remote sensing and nondestructive technique to study the Earth's internal regions implemented by ground-penetrating radars or georadars. This technique is based on microwave radars used for underground sensing and computers to process data. In this paper the description of the areas where georadars were used, the main technical performances and capabilities of georadars, and their up-to-date achieved level of development is presented. The work outlines some author's results obtained during studies conducted in this scientific-technical field till 1990. The paper is illustrated by results of practical studies in Ukraine during the 1997-1998 period.
