Inhomogeneity and magnetic susceptibility of rocks

© Kovalenko-Zavoisky V.M., Ivaschenko I.M.

The magnetic susceptibility anisotropy of a defomed crystalline rock (tectonite) may be due to the superposition of two types of anisotropy generally of different orientation: anisotropy of separate magnetic grains and that due to thier inhomogeneous distribution in a piece of rock. A mathenatical mode shows that with definite relations of anisotropy coefficients of different types and the invariant of the susceptibility tensor of the rock piece the orientation of the resulting tensor may notably differ from eachtype of anisotropy. A nomogram able to estimate the role of each type in the formation of the resulting anisotropy is proposed.
