Results of instrumental seismic studies in the Rivne and Khmelnytsky NPPs areas

For the first time a network of off-line analog ACC-6/12 and digital DAS-003 seismic stations was developed in the area of Rivne and Khmelnytsky NPPs. The purpose of the instrumental observations was the study of the influence of local seismicity associated with the danger for the NPP sites in the regional plan.
During the 1998 - 2001 field experiment more than 1000 events, among them weak and intermediate earthquakes from the Vrancea zone, were recorded and zones where sources of shaking of low energy class associated with local tectonic activization zones were separated.
The obtained experimental data were used to calculate accelerograms of the design - based earthquake (DBE) and the maximal calculated earthquake (MCE) from the Vrancea zone and local tectonic activization zones. It was shown that in this area an intensity 5 (according to the MSK-64 scale) DBE and intensity 6 MCE may occur.
