Application of magnetic compass for geologic-structural and paleomagnetic studies is restricted by presence of magnetic anomalies produced by magnetization of rocks as well as technogenic reasons. Solar compass is devoid of this defect, its proposed design alows to measure azimuths as easily as by magnetic compass. An algorithm for calculation of solar shadow azimuth depending on time and geographical coordinates of locality used to set up a temporal scale of compass has been proposed and possible errors of azimuths measurements have been analysed on its base.
