Monitoring of ice conditions in strait zones

© Azarenko E.V., Lazarenko S.V.

Results of an experiment performed within the Kerchensky strait, which show that hydro-acoustic means within the sound and ultrasound ranges allow to conduct monitoring of ice conditions are considered in the paper. The level of background noise is used as the main criterion for qualitative estimation of the parameters of ice cover. Its excess by 10-15 db indicates compression and the first motion of ice and its excess by 25-36 db - the beginning of ice drift (intense movement of ice).
