On theoretical bases of modern geoelectrics

© Shuman V.N.

Modern-day aspects of the theory of electromagnetic sounding systems from the viewpoint of their practical applications are being considered. It is noted that classical views of their bases are often of a restricted character and in some cases extremely simplify the real geoelectrical situation. Mechanisms of electromagnetic excitement of the Earth by spherical sources of the field have been analyzed as well as special features of propagation of electromagnetic disturbances within heterogeneous geological medium, taking into account spatial and frequency dispersion of its parameters. The most sufficient theoretical results related to the problem of exact impedance description of electromagnetic field on the surface of absorbing (reactive) medium have been presented, in particular, the analysis of impedance affinor, vector impedance surface condition and generalized equations of impedance.
