Geophysics in the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine befor creation of the Earth Sciences Department (1918-1963)

The origin and development of geophysics in the National AS of Ukraine has been elucidated since the moment of its creation (1918) up to formation of Earth and Space Sciences Department (1963). Two main periods have been subdivided in the history of geophysics at the Academy: 1918-1941 and 1944-1963. The last one has been conventionally subdivided into two sub-periods: 1944-1960 and 1961-1963 that is stipulated by the foundation of the Institute of Geophysics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR on 23 December 1960, with its first Director to be S.I. Subbotin, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. His role in creation of the school of geophysics in the system of Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR has been demonstrated. <<back |
