A scale of moment magnitude of the Baikal region earthquakes

© A.V. Klyuchevskiy

Correlative relations between the moment magnitude Mw and the dynamic scales of earthquakes in the Baikal region are established in the study. The magnitude scales of earthquakes were shown to agree rather well in the dynamic range under study. Temporal variations of the moment magnitude correspond to spatial- temporal variations of the stress- strain state in the lithosphere of the region. Average "coefficient of seismic efficiency" η increases with increasing energy class of earthquakes. Minimums η are obtained for earthquakes in the central part of the Baikal rift zone. Maximums η are characteristic of seismic events in the north-eastern flank of the Baikal region.
