Mantle blocks and zones of increased permeability of the Ukrainian Shield

Heterogeneous structure of the mantle beneath the Ukrainian shield revealed in both vertical and horizontal directions by the means of seismic tomography is discussed in the paper. Definition of the term "mantle block" is given, criteria of their allocation due to the peculiarities of the velocity structure of mantle layers is described. Volyno-Podolian, Rosino-Bug, Ingulo-Middle Dnieper, and Peri-Azovian mantle blocks beneath the Ukrainian shield are allocated. Conception of mantle zones of hyperpermeability of the first and second kinds that are revealed by suture zones on the surface is introduced. <<back |
