Dispersion of low-frequency waves in periodic media

A dispersion equation for wave packets propagating vertically in a horizontally layered periodic medium is derived. This equation is presented in an implicit form and expressed in terms of the theory of probability. On the basis of this equation, approximations for phase and group velocities of wave packets of low frequencies are obtained and the limit for applicability of the effective model is estimated. <<back |
