Problems of electromagnetic soundings in water areas

© N.A. Palshin

Marine geophysical studies have been moving lately to deeper and deeper areas up to the continental slope, in this case electrical prospecting has become demanded again. The main problem of marine electromagnetic sounding at this stage of its development is elaboration of new efficient technologies for conducting the studies in the seas and oceans as well as in shallow water transit zone. Special features of electrical-conductivity of the oceanic crust have been considered, the main objects of studies as well as new methods, elaborated lately and applied by leading geophysics companies in the search and prospecting of hydrocarbons, including gas-hydrates. Some results obtained by EM methods in different parts of the World Oceans have been given.
