Analysis has been conducted of conditions of formation of atmospheric precipitations above Ukraine during the synoptic period from 21 to 27 of July 2008 while strong floods in the East Carpathians took place. Diagnostic and prognostic models of frontal mesoscale cloud formations elaborated at UHRI were used. A series of numerical experiments has been conducted on the studies of the effects of different mechanisms of atmospheric precipitations formation on the evolution of frontal bands and convective clusters of different scale which gave strong atmospheric precipitations above mountain ridges of the East Carpathians and adjacent areas. Key microphysical parameters have been determined, which resulted in formation of catastrophic atmospheric precipitations. The greatest share was produces by mechanisms responsible for large-drop spectrum.
